‘Goldfish’ arrives in Brixham

Brixham in Devon has just welcomed a new Cheetah 10.2m justly named “Goldfish”. “Goldfish” upgrades “Dartangler” a Cheetah 9.95m built some five years ago and is operated by a group of commercial anglers.

The new 10.2m Cheetah is registered at 9.98m and has been designed with all the benefits of the hugely successful 9.95m series with the added benefits of a greater load carrying capability. With increased buoyancy and larger hulls the 10.2m can support a full width wheelhouse of varying lengths, the largest outboard engines with various alternative inboard options alongside more fishing gear and deck equipment. Combined with the supreme rough capabilites, the 10.2m makes a very practical and capable fishing catamaran.

The natural progression from the 9.95m was to build a new model with all the advantages of the 9.95m but with the ability to carry more weight, up to at least two tons. Commercial fishermen are under pressure to make economies and therefore need to load boats with more weight whilst maintaining good fuel economy. The 9.95m is still popular for fishermen who want to use 60hp to 90hp outboards. We have a 9m version of the 9.95m fitted with twin 60hp Yamahas currently on order.

“Goldfish” is 10.2m LOA including the bow sprit and has a 3.7m beam. The spacious 2m long wheelhouse is equipped with a toilet, seating and a galley with a Wallas cooker enabling extended trips mid channel and to the Channel Islands. Honda 135hp longshaft engines power the boat and provide an effortless cruising speed of 18 – 20 knots and a maximum speed of 25 – 26 knots." Sean Strevens, Cheetah Designer

The underwater hull design produces great economy. A shortened 9m version of the 10.2m achieved two litres per mile on a delivery trip to Belgium from it’s Honda 175 hp outboards. Hydrive hydraulic steering supplied by Southern Cross Marine is fitted and all the stainless steel work on the boat was custom made in the Cheetah Marine fabrication workshops. Tec Tank supplied the bait tank and pump.

Twin 300 litre tanks give the boat a tremendous range. Local firm, Globe Marine, supplied and fitted a comprehensive electronics package including a Furuno radar with a chart plotter, AIS, sounder, radio and autopilot. Goldfish was surveyed and certified by Seafish and complies with the Seafish Construction Standards.

All the Goldfish partners are delighted with the boat. David Pakes summed up their feelings.

"We are over the moon with Goldfish. It is a superb stable fishing platform. The very friendly and knowledgeable crew at Cheetah Marine have helped to design and then build the perfect angling boat"

News from the Cheetah Workshop:

The end of April saw the completion of a similar 10.2m Cheetah followed by an epic 800 mile delivery voyage to the German - Polish Border. The 10.2m ‘Carmen Calypso’ was built for a Eddy Stoll, a German fishermen who fishes in the Baltic Sea.

The Cheetah workshop is running at full steam as we approach summer amongst which are two 11.2m Cheetahs for practical pleasure and remote location operation and two 8.5m commercial Cheetah which will be based at South Wales and Poole.
