Cheetah embarks on 800 mile seatrial -  longest delivery under own power to date

The latest Cheetah 10.2m 'Carmen Calypso' arrived in Polish Port 'Swinoujscie' after an epic 800 mile delivery trip from Cheetah's base on the Isle of Wight to the German / Polish border.
The proud new owner is Eddy Stoll, a Hotelier and Fishermen from Usedom a small island in Baltic Germany. Eddy has been fishing traditional craft for 35 years from the surf beach outside his hotel and upon seeing Cheetah’s infamous drop test on the cheetah website decided to opt for something a little more radical.

Like all Cheetah Customer’s Eddy's criteria was very specific whilst multi purpose. He required a large fishing boat which he could work from the beach and harbor which would also conform to the German legislation for passenger carrying craft exceeding 20 miles. In addition to commercial fishing supplying the hotel he would be taking guests on fishing trips and coastal cruises to explore the Island’s coastline.

After initial contact with Cheetah Marine, Eddy visited Cheetah's workshops and spoke to existing Cheetah owners. He was very much impressed by Geoff Blake's 9.95m Cheetah which Geoff had worked from the surf beach at Ventnor for many years before the harbour was built. Many of the attributes of a Cheetah would serve Eddy's requirements and this was demonstrated well in Geoff's 9.95m which was easily maneuverable on the beach for a vessel of considerable size.

Eddy chose the new and already very successful 10m hull with a 2.5 x 2m wheelhouse. Seating for up to 6 guests is provided in the wheelhouse whilst the full width screen also provides adequate wind protection to the large deck aft. 'Carmen Calypso' is powered by two Yanmar BY150 diesel engines with Bravo 2 stern drives. The engines supply heat to the cabin via a heater matrix. Outside the deck has been fitted with a 250 litre live bait tank and removable net shooting posts and line shoot.

I looked at various aluminum and GRP catamarans. I chose a Cheetah because it wasn't too big to be worked from my beach and the efficient hull design would enable it to run on relatively small inboard engines. I also required a large wheelhouse with plenty of seating for guests on the site seeing cruise and a large deck space for fishing

After extensive conversations by phone and numerous visits to the UK, Eddy arrived in mid April to collect his vessel. Sean Strevens, Partner and Founder of Cheetah Marine planned the home voyage and two of Eddy’s friends joined the team for the trip to Germany.
